SCOM unveils majority of aspiring stud-leaders unopposed; No candidate qualifies for CBSSC posts
NEWS
Days after the closed-door interview took place in light of this year's student elections, the Student Commission on Elections (SCOM) had officially released the official roster of the qualified candidates vying for different positions, the majority of whom are unopposed from the university-wide to the local level.
The announcement, which was mainstreamed via SCOM’s official Facebook page on May 13, revealed that only 6 out of 11 University Student Council (USC) posts have candidates.
Meanwhile, only the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and Laboratory High School (LHS) gained traction for LSC posts, as aspiring gubernatorial candidate of CAS and running student affairs and business affairs board members of LHS, who are all independents, made it to the list.
As reflected in the announcement of SCOM, it is also worth noting that the College of Business Studies Student Council (CBSSC) posts were left blank, indicating that there are no eligible candidates to vie for the college's local positions this year.
In an interview with SCOM Chairperson Carl Alexander Clavel, he shared that only two students under CBS submitted requirements during the filing of candidacy last May 2–3, in which both were unable to meet the quota in the following closed-door interview.
"Ang dalawa po kasi na candidates, hindi po umabot sa passing score po," Clavel mentioned.
In the previous student elections at DHVSU, when the same instance was seen, some officers were being appointed to assume the vacant positions.
This year, however, it is still not clear if the same process will be followed, as the SCOM has not provided a direct answer when asked by the publication of the said matter.
